Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Season 2026/27 – Importers Should Prepare Now

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) is expected to release the official 2026/27 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) seasonal measures shortly.

Based on advice provided to industry, no significant changes are currently anticipated to the core BMSB requirements for the upcoming season. However, importers should be aware that the official measures have not yet been published and final details are still subject to confirmation by DAFF.

What We Expect

The 2026/27 season is expected to commence on 1 September 2026 and apply to eligible goods shipped through 30 April 2027.

Current indications are that:

• The list of Target Risk Countries will remain unchanged.
• The list of Target High Risk Goods will remain unchanged.
• Mandatory offshore treatment requirements will continue for applicable cargo.
• Random inspections will continue for cargo from Emerging Risk Countries and selected airfreight consignments.
• Existing BMSB treatment options and policies are expected to remain in place.

What Importers Should Do Now

Although the official measures are still to be released, now is an ideal time to prepare for the upcoming season by:

• Reviewing shipments that may be affected.
• Speaking with overseas suppliers regarding BMSB treatment requirements.
• Allowing sufficient time for approved offshore treatment where required.
• Booking shipments early, as treatment facilities and vessel capacity typically become constrained once the season begins.
